What should I do over the summer?

Hello everyone! In this week’s blog post, I’ll be answering a very common question: what should I do over the summer? Read on to learn more!
Everyone’s summer plans look different, and no one has the same ideas for what to do over the summer. For example, I usually go to India every summer to visit my extended family. However, since the pandemic hit, I haven’t been able to go. Similar to that, I know that lots of students’ plans have been cancelled for both summer 2020 and 2021.
That raises the question: what should I do over the summer? Too many plans have been cancelled – there’s almost no options for in-person volunteering, there aren’t any residential summer programs, and there mostly aren’t any summer camps or other activities. Turning virtual has taken a great toll on summer activities, and many students have no clue what to do. That's why, I'll be suggesting a couple of different summer activities for each grade level!
For those of you in 12th grade, congrats on graduating high school! You’re finally done with high school, and you’re now on to college, or any other future endeavors. Spend the summer relaxing and hanging out with friends and family, and preparing for the next phase of your life.
For those of you in 11th grade, I suggest looking into colleges that you may consider applying. Of course, applications don’t open for another 4 months, but it’s always a good idea to get a head start on narrowing down schools you’re interested in. Another way to virtually explore colleges is through virtual tours, attending online information sessions, and exploring the college through social media.
For those of you in 10th grade, I suggest participating in activities that help you explore various careers and fields that may interest you. At this point, it isn’t necessary for you to know exactly what you want to do in college, but it’s an awesome time to look into different fields and see what interests you.
For those of you in 9th grade, you should spend this time relaxing! High school is tough, and it only gets tougher from here on out. This is your first summer in high school, so you should spend that time rewinding, and relaxing for another successful school year. That being said, you shouldn’t sit around all day doing nothing! Try to engage in different activities throughout break, but also relax and prepare for the next school year!
Overall, there is one message that I want to convey, and that is to spend your summer doing something productive, but also relaxing. Please try to stay safe in whatever activities you engage in.
I hope you all found this post useful! Please feel free to contact me with any questions!
Until next time, bye!
