Hello everyone! In this week’s blog post, I’ll be giving you guys some tips to help ace your finals! Read on to learn more.
With the end of the school year approaching, another important set of exams is coming up: finals! While they don’t sound too fun, they’re an essential part in ensuring you understood what you learnt throughout the school year. I’ll be providing you guys with a couple of different tips, that you can use while studying for and writing finals.
Start early – You don’t want to cram the night before! Make sure you start studying early, at a reasonable time away from finals. I usually start about 1-2 weeks before, but that can vary depending on the difficulty of your classes and the amount of finals you have.
Lock away electronics and distractions – You should do this right when you start studying. Put your electronics and other distractions in another room, and try your hardest to study without them near you. You may end up being much more productive!
Make a schedule – When you start to revise for finals, make a schedule. Write down the days and times you’ll be studying, and which subjects or chapters you’ll be revising on those days. It’s a great way to get a head start, as well as ensure you’ll have enough time to go over every chapter for every class.
Active studying – Another key idea when it comes to studying, is the concept of active studying. Personally, I always study actively, since it helps me retain concepts better. It’s essentially probing your knowledge of the concept, to help you understand and retain it better. Some simple ways to actively study are: teach the concept to others, ask yourself questions, try to restate all the information you read, etc. It’s much more effective than just glazing your eyes over textbook pages.
Study groups – Form study groups! Studying with others is a great way to make sure that you’re properly retaining concepts, and also to concentrate. Get together with your friends in a public place, and try to study certain chapters together. It’s also an awesome way to study problem-based subjects, like math, chemistry, or physics.
Review concepts the night before – This is another important tip! The night before the exam, don’t try to cram and study the entire years’ worth of chapters. This is the time for you to go over maybe 1 or 2 chapters that you want to revise. It’s important to do light studying the night before, so you don’t feel like you’re trying to memorize everything in one night.
Sleep well the night before – I know that this seems almost impossible, since most students stay awake and cram until 1 am the night before a test. But, sleeping well can make sure you’re fresh and awake in the morning to tackle your exam. You’ll feel much better and calmer before your exam.
I hope you all found these tips useful. Please feel free to contact me with any questions! :)
Until next time, bye!
