Hello everyone! In this week’s blog post, I’ll be giving you guys a couple of tips to help you study better for a math final. Read on to learn more!

Not many students are huge fans of math. It’s generally termed as one of the more difficult subjects in school, and students typically struggle to grasp the concepts. While it’s not impossible, it’s rare for a student to state that their favorite subject in school is math.

There’s a lot that could cause difficulty for some students when it comes to math. It is indeed a confusing subject, since there’s a lot of analytical and thinking skills required. Some concepts are difficult to imagine in real life, and since students aren’t able to relate to mathematical situations, they generally have a bit more trouble understanding the underlying details.

Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and other science subjects are typically easier to visualize and understand, due to their practical applications and experimental approaches. Math, on the other hand, especially higher levels of math such as Pre-Calc, Calculus, etc., are harder to visualize. It’s not easy to do mathematical experiments, and a higher level of math is necessary to understand the proofs and techniques behind certain concepts.

When it comes to studying for a math final, you should take a more practical and visual approach, and incorporate lots of practice into your studying. I’ll be going through a step-by-step approach that I recommend for students.

First, review! An entire year’s worth of math is hard to remember off the top of your head. While you may be familiar with certain concepts, you may have forgotten minor details. So, when you start to study for your math final, make sure you review everything you learned over the past year. You can review all of the chapters in your textbook, go over your teacher’s notes, and past homework assignments.

Next, practice! This can be in the form of repeating textbook problems, homework questions, etc. The main goal is to instill numerous practice questions in your head, so you’re prepared to tackle any form of a question. By practicing questions, you’ll be simultaneously reviewing and studying the material, and testing your knowledge. If you find that you have difficulty with a certain concept, then you can go back and review it.

Next, watch videos/read about the topic online. I recommend visiting educational websites to review the content they have uploaded, as well as watching YouTube videos pertaining to the topic. Sometimes these videos introduce a new area of the concept that may be unfamiliar but may help you understand it better.

Finally, the night before your exam, review the hardest topics that you learned. Go through some final points and practice questions in that topic, and try your hardest to grasp the material. There will certainly be a concept that you’re not completely familiar with, so this is the time to get some last-minute studying in.

I hope you all found these tips helpful! Studying for math can seem to be a daunting task, but trust me, once you get the hang of the subject, it gets much easier. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Until next time, bye!
